Hemp

The plant growing on the side of the road to a more sustainable future.

Ancient and All New

Hemp or cannabis is making a comeback. And it’s going to be big this time. It has been around much longer than it hasn’t. What I mean by that, is the fact that the hemp plant has been asleep in a corner of our society for most of the 20th century, where it was reduced to marijuana or weed, and the effect of its psychoactive ingredient THC. However, that isn’t doing it justice. Hemp is a magnificent plant with the potential to lead the way to a more sustainable future. Its components can be used as a building material, fabric, medicine, food, paper, plastic, lifestyle product and many other things. Henry Ford built a car using hemp instead of sheet metal. You didn’t know that, did you?

I started learning more about hemp, because I became a huge fan of one of its ingredients, CBD. CBD stands for cannabidiol, which is popular as an oil that you can buy in small bottles to drop under your tongue. It has anti-inflammatory and calming effects among others and is enjoying somewhat of a hype at the moment. Producers are adding it to all kinds of foods, cosmetics and other lifestyle products.

CBD von Jaschi

As my personal Covid project, I started a small CBD business, selling hemp extract on local farmers’ markets. I transformed an old bicycle trailer into a market stall and cycled to five different markets, which added up to 80 km per week. I most enjoyed sharing my passion for the product with my customers, especially when they returned the following week to tell me about their positive experience.
